I am 23 yo female travelling solo to Mexico for the first time in July. I am planning on staying in Playa del Carmen and would like to stay in a safe B&B, does anyone have recommendations? I also wouldn't mind a more social hotel.

I would also welcome any recommendations on activities. I would like to see wildlife, maybe hike, some conservation activities and see the community. I have 7-9 days and would also love to see Belize or Guatemala if I can. Is it easy to travel from Playa del Carmen and down?

You must visit Xcaret and Xel-Ha. Xcaret is a Mexican themed park with a lot of things to do, you may need more than one day to check all the activities. You can find more information here:
Xel-Ha is more natural, for scuba diving and many activities are not included, but the buffet is worth for the money, is a very beautiful natural inlet with coral reef.

I was there last summer and went to Belize and Guatemala as well! If you go down to Chetumal, Mexico, you can take a ferry to the islands (cayes) of Belize. I went to Amberguis Caye (San Pedro) and it was beautiful! I heard that Caye Caulker was even cheaper though, and a lot of young backpackers go there. Guatemala is amazing as well...you can take a bus from Belize City to Flores, which is a really cute town on an island on a lake. From there you can get a tour to Tikal, the amazing Mayan ruins.

I would also recommend going to Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen! Very cool. Hope this helps! over 8 years ago
