Completely safe. Me and my friends go at least once a year, the last time was actually a couple of months a go because some friends from Texas got married there. There's plenty of other tourists, nice places to stay, impressive arts/antiques galleries, and the town is small and safe enough to walk around during the day or night. There are also many taxis around which are trustworthy. My only advice would be for you to get a map of the city, since it's easy to get lost when you're walking around the alleys! You can get a map at the visitors center in the main plaza, or at any gift shop. Have fun over 6 years ago

It is totally safe and I'm sure you're gonna love the city. It is quite small so in almost no time you get to see the whole city. Also there are tons of amazing art galleries and also local shops where you can get classy souvenirs at low prices.
I would suggest you to just walk around and book a hotel downtown so you can go and have lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants that have amazing food. Also if you go don't forget to visit the cathedral for it is really pretty :) over 6 years ago

It is very safe to visit San Miguel these days. Don't forget to visit la aurora gallery where you can find plenty of good master pieces of art for affordable prices, also the atotonilco church is a must, it will take you back to the Spanish colony. But if you want to take a trip thru the time the recently opened And renewed Canada de la virgen pyramids are something you're going to love! Enjoy your trip! over 5 years ago

San Miguel is probably one of the safest places in the world, let alone in Mexico. The people there are very friendly and warm, and appreciate it so much when you say "Hola" and they respond quickly to a simple smile. San Miguel de Allende is a truly magnificent location, and is becoming a locale of choice for American and Canadian expats. There is a highly developed infrastructure that supports a very large and sophisticated English speaking community here. Culture abounds, and there is extremely active social calendar. There are easily forty or more art galleries in town. The climate is among the best, with warm, dry temperatures year round. Real estate here is among the most beautiful in the world, and your dollar can buy you so much more house than in North America. http://www.livinginsanmiguel.com over 4 years ago
