I'm flying to Mexico for a week in the November and are looking for a small, peaceful, safe beach village in Mexico; a place where I can spend my time explore.

Hi, i reckon a nice place could be Playa del Carmen. It is near Cancun but for sure not as expensive nor snob.
Of course you have the "Quinta Avenida" that is mostly commercial but if you stay a little bit away from there you will get to see a totally different town.
From that city you can visit Tulum that is absolutely amazing to explore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulum and the beaches around there are just gorgeous

Tulum is nice and not as party crazy as Cancun and Cozumel. Agreed with above. The ruins are amazing. about 8 years ago

Playa del Carmen is very nice, but I don't know if I would say its quiet. It's quieter then Cancun, but still very popular. There is lots to do around Playa del Carmen though, so I agree that it is a good destination. Mexico is pretty large, so it also depends where you are flying into. Huatulco (La Crucecita) on the Pacific coast has AMAZING beaches and is a small town with an 'old Mexico' feel. Puerto Escondido is also a really nice (surf) town just north of Huatulco. about 8 years ago

Close to Puerto Escondido there is Zipolite with a hippy night and day life, it's really worth a few days stay! about 8 years ago

I suggest Huatulco as the ultimate place to visit for those looking for a low key vacation. Despite the quiet aspects of the area, there are plenty of activities available for those traveling solo or full families traveling together.

My advice for saving some cash is to stay in a private villa instead of the larger resorts. Everything is close by when you are in the villas. There are many sizes and styles available - here are a few to check out:

Try holbox, it's a nice tiny island like 2 hours from Cancun. You can swim with whale sharks over 7 years ago

Just returned Isla Mujeres off Cancun coast. Great little hotel on secluded beach but near all is called El Secreto. Only 12rooms breakfast included. Great Mojitos. Patios with ocean views and big beds to relax on. We paid 135 double. Renting motor bikes to get around is fun. And lots of different and good restaurants. over 7 years ago

Isla Mujeres & Tulum. Conveniently close to Cancun but with a very different pace. about 7 years ago
