Absolutely! Not even a hint of crime in Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately a HUGE misconception. Travel with confidence and enjoy your time in beautiful Puerto Vallarta! Soooo much to see and do! over 5 years ago

Lsd as I've said in other posts about Mexico, as long as you're not involving yourself in the buying, selling or trafficking of drugs (and that means even for personal use) there's no reason you should be caught up in the current narco-wars.
As the two others have mentioned Puerto Vallarta is a pretty tame place, BUT all the usual rules apply regarding valuables, credit cards and personal safety. Don't forget this IS a foreign country, not just an American beach, so things are a little different.
The general advice for Mexico is to stay off the roads at night (more for wandering livestock than bandits), adn stick to the resort areas, don't wander away from tourist areas at night and watch out for your valuables on the beach.
    Have a good trip.

PV is very safe. Your biggest fear should be the timeshare sharks. They are everywhere and don't take "no" for an answer. Just ignore them and walk past. over 5 years ago

YES! I feel that a lot of people associate the violence up north with all of Mexico and that is just not true. Ive been to Puerto Vallarta 3 times now, and Im sure Ill be back many more. I always stay at oasis hostel (oasishostel.com) and even though its a 20 minute walk from centro I never have any problems walking. No one harasses me, apart from an occassional whistle. In all honestly, I feel more safe here than I do back home in Seattle. over 5 years ago
