For a worst case scenario have a look at this security brief from the US Department of State
However I've read recently that some suburbs have been made much safer by local authorities and it's possible to walk around even at night. It's revitalised the cafe culture and community life. Now, if only I could find that article, hmmmm. (It's bookmarked on my work computer, I'll add it tomorrow). But for now here are a couple of crime mapes
and a wikicrimes link where you can get alerts of crime incidents.

It depends on where your job is located, like any other megalopolis, mexico city has its own issues, and of course there are many safe areas to live in. Places close to reforma ave, chapultepec or santa fe are pretty safe and posses high living style, teh only inconvenient is that living there can be as expensive as living in manhattan or paris, but still there are plenty of options, just go around. Good luck¡ about 9 years ago

Depends on the location of your future job. Nice, hip neighbourhoods are Condesa, Roma, San Pedro de los Pinos, Narvarte, Escandón, Del Valle. about 9 years ago

I agree with the other posts. Mexico City is so big that the most important issue is the location of your office. If you can share it with us we can guide you much better. about 9 years ago
