Really, really depends on you - it's a big country! The yucatan peninsula is very safe, has the carribean on 1 side and is full of some of the best Mayan ruins on the other, and also contains some of the most beautiful collonial towns, with some of the first Spanish churches and convents in the Americas.
Then there's Mexico city....incredible and interesting, but a (VERY) big city!
Near it are Cuernavaca -"the city of eternal Spring" and Taxco ( the centre of silver in Mexico), and Acapulco...(just by Acapulco is Pie de la cuesta, a very sleepy seaside town with incredible food and we saw a whale from the beach!!).
Further north I don't know, but more "Americanised" and at the moment a lot more dangerous! almost 9 years ago
Hi hon :)
Well, as almata says, it is actually a really big country and it will depend more or less on what would u like to do around here.
If you feel more like going to the beach and enjoy the eternal summer I would suggest going to the south east, around the yucatan peninsula. There you'll be able to see the most gorgeous beaches ever, with almost white sand and turquoise water. Also you can go visit some cultural places like Tulum. If you plan to go there I would suggest staying at 'playa del carmen' since its really near Cancun and much cheaper in some aspects.
If you want to see more cultural stuff and not total relax, I would tell you to go visit towns in Oaxaca and Chiapas. Tho this 2 options are amazing parts to visit I wouldn't suggest you to go if you're not with a mexican guide or someone who speaks perfect spanish since there are some mmm lets call it political conflicts there and you might end up caught on them. Also another option is Guanajuato where a lot of spanish churches and haciendas are located and also lots of cool museums and locations like that.
If you wanna see something more industrial I would suggest going to Monterrey in the north of the country. Here you could find some nice museums and a more americanized way of life in some aspects. Also in the north you could visit Tampico in Tamaulipas that, tho is not a big city, is kinda cute and you'll be able to enjoy some beach from the gulf of mexico.
Hope you enjoy your visit! almost 9 years agoAnswered by Mafer Kendel via Travellr.com
