One of the best things is the Canal Cruise along the Canals in Amsterdam. Getting to see everyone’s reaction to all the amazing buildings lit up at night and a few drinks along the way always helps…

Red light district is a must do and possibly a sex show as well. It may sound disgusting but i guess that is what Amsterdam is all about.

And i must say check out some of the pubs or "coffee shops" they are a definite must see while you are in Amsterdam...

And always remember to give way to the bike riders otherwise they will not knock you out as they have right of way! almost 8 years ago

The Van Gogh museum and the Rikes museum are a must! Cafe Baba and Kandinsky are a couple of my favorites although after one spliff it may not matter ;-) almost 8 years ago

Agreed, a canal cruise is awesome - definitely an eye-opener to their way of life.

I would say it is definitely worth a trip to the Heineken Experience (at the old Heineken Brewery), walkable distance (20mins) or a few mins by tram - most of the trams that go down the main street away from central station head down there I think.

If you interested in history the Anne Frank Museum is really quite an experience (its the house where they lived/ were in hiding). its a short tram trip or a bit of a walk form the city centre (Completely different direction from the Heineken brewery)

The DamRak is supposedly a big tourist thing..I don't really see the attraction, but theres a souvenir store at the back left corner of the damrak (facing away from central station) that has a giant clog outside..cool for photos, also fantastic arrays of clogs inside that particular store.

As an eye opener, any souvenir store along the main street is worth a look at, go to the back of the store, the array of bongs, coke bombs, coke cutting kits etc is astounding!

If you can choose the dates to go, try to be there for April 30th - its the Queens Birthday. The whole of Amsterdam gets shut down and set up as one big party...raves under bridges, massive podiums with DJs everywhere. The best day of the year to visit :D almost 8 years ago
