It depends of which islands you want to visit, Texel the biggest and the most touristic is easily accesible from Amsterdam (by ferry via Den Helder about 70 km north from the city) but from Groningen is a little bit far. The rest of the islands (Vlieland and Terschelling are accesible from Harlingen), Almeland from the small village of Holwerd and Schiermonnikoog from Lauwersoog, all of them belongs to Friesland provincie.

The best way to visit them is taking a the ferry to each island and just enjoy each one from the bike, you will find bikes for rent easily (some of them bring your lugagge to your accomodation)
The journey by train between Groningen and Harlingen takes about 1h 30', by car should be faster. For the rest there is local buses from Groningen, line 163 for Schiermonnikoog and Lauwersoog.

You will fin more information about the park www.nationaalpark.nl/schiermonnikoog
During summer time the islands can be crowded (specially Texel), although in winter and fall weather can be extremely windy and cold, the landscape is really amazing!
