    No, Dunedin has a population of about 125,000 people (20,000 of which are university students). WLG proper has a population of about 195,000 or 480,000 if you're talking about WLG greater. almost 7 years ago

    Wellington is the Capital city and the second largest in the country after Auckland (if you include Hutt Valley which is really part of Wellington but is regarded as a city in its own right). Dunedin would be about the 5th largest, similar in size to Hamilton (an hour south of Auckland) almost 7 years ago
