I bought a vodaphone SIM card in AUK airport for my iPhone 6. 3gb data, 100min talk an 200 texts with a NZ number. Added on 1gb toward the end of 10 days on the N Island. That may be better option for a shorter term trip. Verizon charged $20 a day to use my phone roaming. 3 months ago

I bought the new NZ pack in Australia from Telstra for $5/day for unlimited free international calls in and out, plus paid an additional $25 (the $25 covers 31 days) for the NZ data pack, and used my own phone which was on international roaming the whole time 24/7.. Made and received international calls and all emails, excellent coverage, trackable progress app. Now that I'm back,I can confirm absolutely no charges for anything. 3 months ago
