The Mamanuca group of islands is your best bet if you are looking for value for money and for the fact that they are not too distant from the port of Nadi - usually anything from half an hour to an hour and a half on the ferry/cat. We have stayed at Malolo Island twice and absolutely loved it. We stayed in April 2009 and August 2009. In April we had brilliant weather and fantastic days but in August things were totally different. It was cold and wet and we didn't swim very much at all, that is, in the ocean. I don't see the point of going to a tropical island and swimming in the pool ! The snorkelling and sea life is fantastic and you can do day trips to other islands. Fiji is a laid back place to just sit, relax and do nothing whilst whiling away the hours. Most islands offer meals plans which are great value as well. The same deals applies to places like Mana, Treasure, Plantation and Castaway Islands which are all in the Mamanuca group. Island stays vary in price and according to what you want in terms of what you are willing to pay. Just do your research as prices can vary considerably. I found that booking flights directly with Air Pacific on both occasions was better value. You can also book directly with resorts as they can negotiate better deals than travel agents but there are great package deals out there also. It's just a matter of locating them. over 7 years agoAnswered by XYZ via Travel Insurance Direct
Try Waya Island in the Yasawas - they are further away than the Mamanuca's but its worth it. Plus you can stay at any of the islands in the Mamanuca's on the way back (It is the same ferry to go to both groups).
Have a look at Octopus Resort. Dorm rooms are nice, with air con. over 7 years agoAnswered by Jono via WorldNomads.com
