I am visiting Lisbon, Portugal for the first time in October for a week. I am into history, museums, and things like that. I am hoping to get around via mass transit and trains, if possible, rather than renting a car. Any suggestions on where to stay? What to are do? Where to eat, especially local fare?

Hi! Most lf the hotels are good, even the Hostels! Just check on Visit Lisbon or Golisbon.com to see which neighborhood you'd prefer and check on Tripadvisor.
Transportation: you should get a 'Zapping' card so you can use several transport (bus, tram, tube, boat).
What to see? You have lots to see but Lisbon is more of a 'feel it, taste it and live it' town. Most of the restaurants are good too so just avoid the ones that are just meant for tourists. They're actually the only places I wouldn't go!
Try to visit Sintra (less than an hour trip by train). Enjoy your stay! about 1 year ago

The metro is pretty easy to use and can get you most places.

Pretty much all tourists head to Belem to try the famous pastries, and to Alfama for dinner with a Fado performance. But both experiences are definitely worth doing! about 1 year ago
