I have a smart phone and need a data plan in Portugal. What is the best plan that you know of?

The prices and conditions are quite the same in the major wireless carriers operating in Portugal, with all of them offering a daily plan for €0,99 (10 MB) and a monthly plan for 7,62 (100 MB).
However, Vodafone, one of the carriers offers more flexible monthly plans also: €5 - 75 MB; €10 - 250 MB; €15 - 500 MB

You just have to buy a pre-paid mobile phone card in a post office or some shop, they're easily found.
Then to use the monthly plans you have to call some number to activate it. (e.g. In Vodafone it is 1277)

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I had heard about the 7€/month from TMN but I wasn't easily able to find info about it online.

Well it looks like I have plenty of options. I am a pretty light user but 10€ at Vodafone looks like a pretty sweet deal.

Any idea about roaming? If I cross the border to Spain will I incur big international fees for calls, sms and data? over 10 years ago

Received sms are free, sent cost €0,13.
Received calls cost you €0,22, making one sets you at €0,52.
Data is more expensive, you have to pay €15 for twenty-four hours of access (50 MB). over 10 years ago

In the end I got TMN prepaid

For 8€ I got the SIM + free internet for a month + 5€ credit

I had some problems with the internet (they stuffed up and didnt give me free internet for a bit, but they gave me 6€ credit to make up for it). TMN people don't really know how to use phones that they don't sell. Most of which come with settings already.

To use the internet on Android you just need to create an APN called internet with the server "internet"
This site should also help with other networks.
