There are no cheap places to stay in PR. Save your pennies and stay in a nice hotel. Life is too short to be so frugal. PR is an American Commonwealth with a dollarized economy and a high standard of living. Bring money. almost 5 years ago

Check out the paradores. Not especially cheap but most are historic B&B types. Also google guest houses there's a ton in isla verde near airport should find something that will work still near the beach. Check out big chain hotels websites too they often offer better discounts & you can have luxury too almost 5 years ago

I paid $200 USD/ night for a dump. Around the corner from my hotel was a hotel called Da House - spoke to some tourists coming out and they said it was clean and staff was friendly. It was also cheaper by $100 per night. In that alley there was also a "hole in the wall" to get cheap drinks - it was great! almost 5 years ago

I would second Alexia's mention of Da House (http://www.dahousehotelpr.com/)--it's a boutique hotel (a former Spanish monastery), each room decorated by paintings from local artists. Small rooms, but clean and very pleasant. Excellent location in Old San Juan, within an easy walking distance to the best restaurants and tourist attractions. And, it's $90 to $150 a night (depending on the room). over 3 years ago
