I stayed in Moscow for a few days before I hopped on the Trans-Siberian Railway just a few weeks ago. I stayed at Hotel Irbir, which was a little ways North of the main Moscow area.

It's a bit of a walk to the metro station (10min), but the staff were great and I had no complaints about the service, cleanliness or anything really. almost 7 years ago

Maxima Hotels are very nice 3 star hotels , Irbis is a good one i was their last february , very cozy and warm , i liked the lobby bar with the aquarium with big fishes.
last time i was in Moscow in April and i discover Maxima Panorama ,the newes hotel of the chain, excellant , nice location just near the metro. spacious rooms with a nice view to the Moscow center , and the price was cheap, soo i think the best choice for 3 star hotel in Moscow over 6 years ago

Try Kitai-gorod hotel, it's very close to the Red square. But it seems to be 2* about 5 years ago
