Here are two hotels close to the airport that have been recommended to us:
Changi Village Hotel (starting at SGD100 per night)
Crowne Plaza Changi Airport (starting at SGD220)

Singapore is also renowned for it's night zoo, so you could get the night and day experience in one go if the zoo is your priority :)
The zoo and the airport aren't terribly close together (as far as distance goes in singapore anyway!) - since you have a limited time there - i'd stay near the airport catch a taxi. The public transport option to the zoo was a little slower than I expected (I went via train to Ang Mo Kio station and then the bus to the zoo) when I used it hence my suggestion.
As mentioned above the two hotels that are very close to the airport are the crowne plaze and changi village - the latter is a fair bit cheaper especially if you are just staying the night! over 7 years ago
The Quincy Hotel is a new chain hotel that opened last year. It is about 30 minutes to the airport and about 25 minutes to the zoo. It's also located walking distance to the shopping district on Orchard Street. Quincy is a moderate price 90 Sing (about 1.5 Sing = 1 USD). You get breakfast, a fixed lunch and fixed dinner plus open bar in the evening included in the room price.
As another posted, the zoo had excellent viewing during the day and a good night tour. Animals are most active in the early morning and in the late afternoon.
Pull up Google maps and search the two and you'll see how small Sing is. Taxis after 5:00 pm charge a premium so check on the prices and fit your schedule. Good luck and enjoy.

Singapore accomodations isn't generally too cheap yopur best bet would be to look for a guest house (asiarooms.com is quite helpful). The SMRT trains make it so easy to get around you won't really need to stay close to either the airport or zoo but I would reccommend staying close to a train station.
The zoo's night safari is fantastic over 7 years ago
Taxi's in Singapore are relatively inexpensive too. For example, for me to get from Holland Village across to Changi Airport takes about 25 minutes and SGD $25. It's a 'no mess, no hassle' way to go instead of MRT and Buses.
The closer you get to the CBD (i.e. Orchard Road, Raffles Place, Marina Bay, etc...) the higher the price for a hotel. My suggestion is to look at Wotif.com, LastMinute.com, RatesToGo.com and similar hotel booking sites where hoteliers place 'distressed' vacancies (unfilled rooms). this usually gives you a 2 week window and can save you some considerable $$$.
The Night Zoo is a great experience, but if you don't have the time to spare it is still well worth a visit to the Zoo during the day. over 7 years ago
According to your thread, I would suggest you to stay in near airport and take public transport or train to reach the Zoo. If you will hire taxi then you may spend more time on traffic, better travel in train. Why not in night safari, really you will feel amazing experience. almost 4 years ago
