I did it by train some 28 years ago, but these days I hear good things about the Bla Bla Car app. Tip: do not miss the biggest pinewood area in Europe around Praia da Vieira and the glass museum in Marinha Grande... 6 months ago

    Hiello:
The best option is by bus (cheap, clean and on time). In the north the so called FEVE are "small" trains very interesting to know that area of the country.
To sleep and rest i use (sometimes) the rest areas on highways (usually i look for the ones that look with a new renovation), the quality is enough good.
Avoid south in summer (too hot).

(( I apologize for my english))
    Hola:

La mejor opción es, creo yo, en bus (baratos, limpios y sin retrasos).. Por el norte existe una red de ferrocarriles (FEVE) muy interesante para conocer afondo esta zana de España. 6 months ago

Blablacar! It is basically an Uber for long distances. This is a community of travelers, so you will meet many great people, have the convenience of a car, and pay less than half the price of a bus or train ticket.
    Check it out! http://www.blablacar.es
