We found accommodation prices in India way off beam with value when we went last year and I think you'll find accommodation a bit cheaper than India because you haven't got the sheer supply & demand problem driven by the rising Indian Middle class.

For example this is a place we were looking to stay at two years ago (before we called off the trip from security concerns) and I don't think you'll find anything of this style at this price in Goa: http://www.secretgardenvilla.lk/cont_res.html

Not having gone I couldn't comment on food prices.

Now the civil war has ended I'd be interested in the results of your trip.
    good luck

Different country, nicer people, and a lot cheaper. And secret garden is a decent place to stay at. Might be a bit more expensive since the war is over. about 5 years ago

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country.normally hotel rates are around USD 30 on words.but you can find a good 4* hotel around USD 100.00 per day.other hotels are good.but only basic facilities.if you traveling with a group and searching for a law budget, best option is go for bungalows.there are plenty of holiday bungalows.but most of them are not including food.cook is there and you can ask him to cook what you want, you can find Indian foods in anywhere else in Sri Lanka.and cheap too. almost 5 years ago
