Are there any places in Sri Lanka I should be careful of going to? Are there any general safety tips for travelling in this country?

Sril Lanka, post civil war, is a changed country. I've been there before and after the conflict and have seen a remarkable change. Due to the use of landmines, especially in the far north around Nulumwewa, Trincomalee, Jaffna and Mullaitivu, I'd be somewhat careful not to wander too far into the jungles. Otherwise the country has opened right up and the north is extremely interesting. However, it's hard to pass on Galle, Kandi, Unawatuna or Panama. over 6 years ago

Very safe! In fact, it's developing at a mind boggling rate and the time to go is now- before foreign investment gets their hands too deep into the new infrastructure. Don't miss Galle, Mirissa beach, Ella and climbing Adams peak! over 4 years ago
