I'm planning a last minute holiday to Thailand & I'm looking for a not too rowdy beach resort to stay at in Koh Samui (or Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta) over new year. My only requirements are that it has to have a great pool and excellent beach front. Any tips?

Your best bet is probably Bophut or MaeNam, to the north of Samui... Definitely avoid Chaweng and Lamai - they'll be packed and not in the least bit peaceful.

Bophut is lovely... quiet ish beach, some lovely resorts and Fisherman's Village - a run of lovely little restaurants and bars right on the beach, which gives you plenty of choice in the evenings, but isn't too rowdy - mostly an expat scene.

A few resorts I can recommend:

    The Waterfront - http://www.thewaterfrontbophut.com/
Gorgeous little family run resort... always scores very highly on TripAdvisor

    Saboey Resort - http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/samui/saboey_resort_villas.html
A bit more expensive but beautiful!

    The Koh Samui Resort

I'm a little biased about this one as I got married here! It's much more secluded, on a private beach. Family run, fantastic restaurant... very romantic. Still within easy reach of Fisherman's village if you want to go out at night. Great sunsets!

Personally, for New Year, I'd say the Koh Samui Resort is a little too secluded, but then I like to party for New Year. There are plenty of places to choose from.

Hope I've been of some help :-) almost 8 years ago

Thank you both for your replies! They are truly helpful :)

We're now thinking of island hopping so we can get a bit of variety!
Still a little worried about hitting the crazy crowds, but hopefully we'll be able to find some little hide-away places to retreat to if it gets too much!

    Thanks again for your replies.
