Having not traveled in the region at all I would like to know which countries are the best to experience first? Would you recommend focusing on one country say Thailand first, I hear you can explore the beautiful tropical waters around Crabbe and Pucket experiencing tremendous diving etc.... I assume there there are many other highlights of the country, what else is a must do while there? Also I don't speak any form of Cantonese or the like, is this an issue?

Depending on the type of holiday your looking for there's a number of different options you could pursue. I'd recommend picking one of either Thailand or Vietnam to be your 'base' country and visit a couple of other places from there.

I don't know much about diving myself, but I believe there is good diving in Thailand, so that's probably a good place to use as your base, and it's probably the easiest of the countries to visit and one of the cheapest depending on exactly where you go.

If you're in that part of the world I'd make time to visit the Angkor temples in northern Cambodia, and spend some time in Luang Prabang in Laos as part of your trip. over 7 years ago

i would recommend going to Phi Phi Island for either a day trip or to stay there for a while. It has amazing snorkelling places and the lime stone cliffs are beautiful. There are heaps of little places to wonder around. Every corner there is something different and it is great to go there and support everyone as they were worst effected by the tsunami

There are so many different little place to go to while in Thailand. We also went to Khoa Lak. This was a really nice place before tsunami cleared most of the vegetation. It is still worth going just for the support of the locals.

Phuket is very busy and almost everyone there talks excellent English. Been Australian they will try and talk the Australia lingo to you, quite funny... You will get people trying to talk Australian to you so you will go in to their shop. James Bond Island day trip is also a good highlight you can also arrange to have lunch and do cave cannoning as well on the day trip to James Bond Island. Also the elephant safaris are worth while as well.

There is also a show called Fantsea which is worth seeing while you are in Phuket.

Just a few ideas to think about.

Enjoy the planning! over 7 years ago
