If you are looking to save time, have comfort and price, try Nok Air. You can find some good flight deals, alternatively take the train. almost 2 years ago

I flew, and I was lucky enough to get a flight for around $70AUD. Try airlines like Virgin, Nokair, tiger and Air Asia if you're looking for a budget way to travel there. It's only about an hour/hour and a half, and saves you a lot of time mucking around with buses. Also, if you're going to Chiang Mai, you HAVE to head up to Pai. It's about 3 hours North (into the mountains) of Chiang Mai. From memory, the bus was about 300 baht, don't pay any more than that if you decide to head up there. Such a beautiful place. Best of luck! almost 2 years ago

Personally I don't find the trains uncomfortable, admittedly they aren't fast, but the journey offers opportunity to chat with local Thai people, acclimatise, think about the experience of your adventure so far and it gives an opportunity to see the changing geography of the country, putting everything into context. almost 2 years ago
