Depend on your activity. If diving, I would recommend the beach in the southern part of Thailand while lay down and getting the sunshine Hua Hin is the nice place too and it is not too far from Bangkok. about 5 years ago

Diving- anywhere down south, nature/secluded beaches go to koh Chang or koh kood, for a mix of party and nice beach - you can't go wrong with koh Samed about 5 years ago

If you like many tourists on the beach, follow the above recommendations. If not, visit a beach south of Pranburi (Hua Hin). see http://www.huahinmap.com/south-of-pranburi.htm about 5 years ago

It's a good idea to stay in Phuket and take tours from there... You can visit a number of islands in a day trip! I'd advise you to take the smaller boats, though... Less structure, but they can reach places that bigger boats won't go. Also, if. Can afford it, do a private tour, so that you can manage your time as you please... Have a great trip! Thailand is amazing!!! about 5 years ago

I agree with Dave J. The Le Meridien Phuket beach. Don't worry, if you don't stay there, you still can use the beach. Clean, white sand beach. Nice waves. Another alternative would be Karon beach. It's not so congested unlike the ever popular Patong beach. Likewise, clean white sands and nice big waves. about 5 years ago

Lipe island. Still untouched by the world. about 5 years ago

Yes i agree with Sahara that Koh Lipe is the best must visit beach in Thailand, it is a little out of the way and that is why it is still so great.
But access is still fairly easy and by taking the ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi (overnight Phi Phi) and then ferry onwards next day to Koh Lipe. You can in high season travel directly from Phuket to Koh Lipe about 6 hours on the fast boat too (i think), just check out the latest schedules as they change often due to the seasons and operators.
This place is really laid back with some great beach's, bars and restaurants, it is not another Patong. Just don't tell to many people about this place ! If you need a Thai hotel i get mine here www.ihotelthai.com about 5 years ago
