Hi can anyone tell us when the Karon night markets are on in the temple grounds and what types of things they sell? Also interested in a day 'join in' fishing trip from Chalong - any company you could recommend. Ska Bar in Kata when is the fire dancing on? Any good (and cheap) restuarants in Karon and Kata = Thai & seafood mainly? Any general recommendations or info would be appreciated. Returning on our second trip this October & staying in Karon again.
Hi there, As I wrote in the email to you below. Also just remembered the guy who organised the fishing trip for us ran the "Chocolate Bar" on the front at Rawai Beach. I can; find his number but if you pop down he can sort it for you, for the next day. I can't remember the exact price but it was less than a 3rd of the ones that advertise on Thai Visa, Teak Door etc... It was great value. A full out rigged fishing charter boat from 9.30am to about 5pm with drinks and lunch included and we were the only 3 on board.
The night markets are on the main road from Karon Circle (Patak Road) so it's the 1st exit off the circle if you were driving from Patong, I used to go on Saturday mornings which were in the Temple grounds. It looked the same as pretty much every other night market. Lots of touristy souvenirs, mens & womens clothes, swim shorts, t-shirts. Sunglassses, and lots of great food stalls. The closest area to the Temple itself was my favourite food stall.
Ska Bar, the fire dancers are there on Fridays, haven't seen them any other night so far. But they are the waiters so pop down any time and you can ask them what specific time.
The place I eat the most at used to be called GuayJab, which is now called Red. If you come from Karon to Kata on the beach road, go all the way to the end where if you turn right you are heading towards Kata Noi & left takes you to Kata Hill & Patak Road (The main road to Chalong) Red is about half a mile up on the right. The cheapest, and possibly my favourite is also on the same road. It's further up on the left hand side and has a birght yellow sign outside. It's a co-op type place so there is a bar, pool club inside and 2 little restaurants share the outside patio with maybe 3 or 4 tables. There is a soup stall at one end but the good part is at the beach end of the building. It's run by a lady called Noi who does a great Red Curry and if you ask nicely she will make you a special Massaman the next day. almost 10 years ago
