    Turkey - Exercise a high degree of caution

    There is no nationwide advisory in effect for Turkey. However, you should exercise a high degree of caution due to crime, the threat of terrorist attacks and ongoing demonstrations throughout the country.

    Regional Advisory for the border with Syria

    Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) advises against all travel within 10 km of the border with Syria, due to a deteriorating security situation. See Security for more information.

    There are warnings about not going within 50 kms of the Syrian border due to the conflict there.
    Also occasionally there's an incident in Istanbul - small explosions - but they're usually targeted at police stations and government buildings. No need to be put off totally, but do keep a high level of alertness when you're there. almost 3 years ago
