Where can I travel to from Dubai for a short holiday? Given what's going on in the Middle East I'd like to avoid Syria, Egypt, Bahrain, etc.

I've already been to Sri Lanka and would highly recommend it to others - it's got everything - beaches, cultural and historical sites, casinos, greenery, acres of tea plantations and great weather!

For my next holiday I'd like to go some where similar but not have to spend too long travelling far. Any suggestions? Please include things to do at these destinations too.

Hey - while staying in Dubai, I went to Oman for a long weekend and it was the perfect short break. Only an hour’s flight from Abu Dhabi and you're in total paradise!

I’m not sure what kind of things you like to do on short breaks, but Oman was the first place I went scuba diving and it was incredible! Also, there were so many beautiful restaurants to choose from and you will be overwhelmed by the beautiful (and completely empty) sandy beaches.

If partying is your thing then I’d probably give it a miss, but if you like turtles, dune exploring and trekking at any scale then I highly recommend it.

    Hope this helps

Oman - either Muscat or head to Mussandam and see the dolphins. You could drive or fly.

Go camping in Oman - plenty of great spots near some of the wadis.

Cyprus - short flight, north Cyprus is very lovely and easy to get to, ie, fly into Limassol, get a hire car, drive over the border...done. I dont know much about southern Cyprus. In the north you have beaches, great restaurants, history. Well worth a long weekend.

Istanbul - great city for a long weekend.

    Beirut

Kerala was lovely when I went. We mixed a few days in Kochin with some time on the beach as well as a trip on the backwaters at Alleppey. Direct flight with Emirates. Very do-able.

How long would you be prepared to fly for? If you are happy to fly for a bit longer, then you have the options of say Hong Kong which is a fab city for a long weekend; Zanzibar; Maldives etc etc. over 7 years ago
