I have always liked Bath. Near enough to Portland in the south, and Bar Harbor/Acadia NP north for day trips and exploring. Rockport is also lovely. Not a big fan of the Kennebunk area as I find way too touristy, but, it is close to Portsmouth New Hampshire, which is one of my favourite NE coastal towns of all. almost 5 years ago

    • Thank you that is very helpful! We liked Bath when we looked online but it's always hard to tell without firsthand knowledge. We welcome more recommendations from others as well! Suzanne DeGarmo almost 5 years ago

The Bar Harbor Inn in Bar Harbor is our favorite ocean side place to stay. The town is small, lots of shopping and Arcadia National Park is just up the road.
The inn itself I wonderful, friendly people, clean comfortable rooms and depending on the time of year they offer some really great packages. almost 5 years ago

Hi there! Exciting! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I've lived in Maine all of my 43 years and two of my favorite coastal spots are Bar Harbor and Boothby Harbor. If you choose either one, I think you'll be happy. Good luck! over 4 years ago

Five Islands at the end of the Georgetown area just on the North side of the Kennebeck River from Bath is quiet and beautiful. Orr's & Bailey's Island just east of the Brunswick area is lovely and sedate. If you want something with a bit more activity around, Boothbay Harbor is just lovely. Shopping, great food, whale watching, kayaking, golf, theater, and candlepin bowling!! (go check it out downtown) over 3 years ago

Boothbay Harbor and Bar Harbor are both beautiful communities on the water. They are very popular in the summer, so depending on when your wedding is, you'll want to book a place well in advance. Even though it's the "long way", drive Route 1; it is very scenic and you'll get to see more of what makes Maine beautiful.

If the tourist scene isn't your idea of a good time, you might want to try Bath, Harpswell or Georgetown.

    Hope your wedding is amazing!
