Can anyone recommend an easy driving direction from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park? I may or may not spend a night there. Still trying to find an affordable hotel/inn under $110 in August, if possible.

Can anyone recommend a must-see places in Yosemite National Park? Many thanks.

As far as I know, the hotels/rooms inside Yosemite aren't cheap. So you might want to consider staying overnight at a town nearby ( outside the park) ---in a motel. That's what I did.
Besides,if you were to be driving into Yosemite, you could get a map of the park and follow the main trail for cars, which will include most of the "must-sees" unless you gotta hike inside the park.
Basically driving from San Fran to Yosemite means you are going to enter the park from the West.

Consider entering the park from the south, especially if you are looking for a motel outside the park, reasonable gasoline, etc. you wont find any of that near to the park if you come from the west and Merced...just tiny El Portal.
Must See...the view of the Sierra Mountain tops from Glacier Point. The view when you come out of the tunnel. Walk to a waterfall, like Bridal Veil (the Yosemite Falls usually are dry by August.) I loved walking around the grounds of Wawona Hotel, which is old and feels like you are going back in time. Some kind of ranger led activity, like the two hour bus tour of the valley highlights. Mariposa Grove. Go back away from the main drag in he valley and get by the river. Good, reasonably priced food is available at Degnans...for better prices than up at the Lodge dining room.

Have you considered staying at Curry Village? The platform tents have beds and linens and a modest amount of electricity. We paid $110 a night last month, and were quite content. It was great to be in the park, rather than face a long drive in and out each day to an out of the park motel. Enjoy! It is just amazing. about 3 years ago
