Walk, walk, walk!!! The hotels are your main attractions ...every hotel has something special happening. Bellagio fountains are amazing, watch the volcano erupt at the Mirage, watch the pirate show at Treasure Island...shopping in every hotel & an outlet mall at either end of the strip. A must see Is Freemont Street located down in the older section of town...it's amazing
The shows are awesome too over 4 years ago
Yes, i visited this place and like to suggest you to go as soon as possible. Because when i was there in the month of April, i played the world series of poker and enjoyed a lot. I'll force you to go in month of April instead of August. Best travel experience to Las Vegas.

Further to Lori's reply, you will also need to stop in evey hotel and outlet since you are going in August. I have been there then and tt is hot, hot, hot then. And don't let people tell you that it is ok because it is a "dry heat". At average temps of 115-120 degrees, hot is hot. I usually try to go during the 4th quarter of the year, when the weather is more comfortable.
As for iPadNomad's reply, the Hoover Dam/Lake Mead and the Grand Canyon are great places to visit. That said, there are coach tours to them. You don't necessarily need a rental car.
Other places to vist could be the Pinball Hall of Fame. They have a ton of pinball machines from all eras that you can play. They are anywhere from $0.25 to $0.75, depending on age of the game. Its a great way to spend a few hours. Easy to get to via the bus. A few blocks off the Strip. almost 4 years ago
