We took a one week cruise on Holland America Cruise Lines leaving from Vancouver BC. We took an outside room with a balcony. The food, service, amenities, staff, physical plant, rooms were all top flight. It was not cheap but it was a special occasion. We looked at Regent 7 Seas. They are all balcony suites, beautiful accommodations and a considerably higher in price. For the money, Holland America seems to be the Best value.
This was our first cruise. We learned that the smaller the number of guests on board, the higher the level of service, cost and satisfaction.
If you want to go Carnival, you'll spend less and end up spending a lot more time inlines cuing up for meals, departures, etc.
The best time to go for me is the shoulder months, spring or fall. You miss the school kids, summer vacationers and pay a lower cost.

We also went on Holland America's alaskan cruise, we sailed out of Seattle on The 0sterdam, with stops in Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan and Victoria British Columbia.

Do not do the cruise without getting a room with a veranda, it is worth every extra dollar spent. To be able to sit outside on your private balcony in the morning, having coffee, watching whales, eagles and just the prettiest landscapes ever go past is well worth it..... about 9 years ago
