If you can manage a trip to Ann Arbor, it would make for a nice day. Go to Zingermanns!
Outside of Detrot is Ferndale, funky town with a great market, and music scene. over 5 years ago

If you've got some time in the Detroit area, visit The Henry Ford which consists of Greenfield Village (allow 6 hours), Henry Ford museum (allow 3 hours), Ford Rouge Factory tour (allow just over 2 hours) where I am a guide. If you take the factory tour, verify first that the factory is operating. Take a look at their web site : thehenryford.org. That's a great site for teachers too. over 5 years ago

If you're going to the top of the mitten, see Mackinac Island. Take the ferry boat over. No cars allowed on the island, so you get around via horse and buggy or bike. They try to get you to buy lots of fudge. So if you're not diabetic before you go there, you'll be one when you leave. If you have time afterwards, go to the upper peninsula and see the Soo locks. over 5 years ago

If you like walks on the beach, go to Weko Beach in Bridgman MI just before sunset and walk to Warren Dunes, it is a walk you won't regret about 5 years ago

Go to Mackinaw Island! 12 fudge shops, no cars, and the beautiful lake. Also visit Ann Arbor if you're in the south of the state. It's a traditional college town and there's always something to do! over 4 years ago
