I'll be volunteering in Kampot for a few weeks in June and hoping to spend a week or two exploring/relaxing on Phu Quoc Island as I missed out on my last trip to Vietnam. I've heard about the possibility of buying a 15 day visa at the border but have heard that there's no guarantees etc etc
Am also wondering just how long it takes to make the trip from Kampot to Vietnam/Phu Quoc and if its realistic to go to the Island for a week or if I should give it more time or chill in Cambodia instead.

Thanks!

I did this in 2010 and found it o.k. We travelled from kep over the land boarder and already had visas from Australia organized, so the boarder crossing was easy. Got ripped off by the motor bike riders that took over from the Cambodian tuk tuk driver at the boarder and they told us the ferry wasn't going that day so put us on a bus to reach Gia and charged us about $110 for the bus fare. Which is a little over 2hours. Angry!!!. Once we got to phu quoc though it was good. over 4 years ago
